96,000 students from the Setúbal Peninsula impacted

The 7th edition of the Ecovalor Program, promoted by Amarsul, registered an important milestone in terms of participation, with 182 educational establishments joining, directly impacting more than 96,000 students from the Setúbal Peninsula.

In the 2023/24 school year, the Program collected 490 tons of recyclable waste, 141 tons of which was plastic and metal packaging, 254 tons of paper/cardboard and 13 tons of glass, representing an increase of 194 tons compared to the previous year.

The main aim of the Ecovalor Program is to promote good environmental practices by distinguishing the schools that stand out most in the separation of recyclable waste through the Recicla e Ganha competition in the following categories: Yellow (plastics and metals), Blue (paper/cardboard) and Green (glass). In the most recent edition, the Top 3 schools were Egas Moniz - Cooperativa de Ensino, CRL (Almada), EB 2,3 Qta. Nova da Telha (Barreiro) and EB Santa Marta do Pinhal (Seixal).

The effort and commitment of students, teachers, assistants and families has resulted in more than €11,000 in prizes being awarded to participating schools, recognizing their commitment to a more sustainable environment.

By joining, the Ecovalor Program offers registered schools selective collection equipment, such as ecobags for internal use, 120-liter containers and bags for outdoor areas. In addition, the program includes free environmental training sessions, covering topics such as recycling, waste management and the processes for treating and reusing recyclable materials.

With the Ecovalor Programme, Amarsul ensures that all the waste collected is reintegrated into the production cycle as raw material, while at the same time recognizing and rewarding the environmental performance of schools, encouraging a more sustainable future for the entire educational community.
