For the third consecutive season, EGF and the Football Foundation - Liga Portugal are transforming the Allianz CUP Final Four into a stage where football and the promotion of sustainable behaviour go hand in hand and score goals for recycling.
Promoted by EGF and its concessionaire Valorlis, the Allianz CUP Final Four, which returns to the Estádio Municipal de Leiria - Dr. Magalhães Pessoa, from 6 to 11 January, will once again be an Eco-Event. The aim is to ensure proper waste management and encourage the active collaboration of participants in a collective movement.
The promotion of good environmental practices began before the event with awareness-raising activities aimed at the teams on assembly days, to ensure that the waste produced is separated and sent for recycling. There will also be reinforced containerisation around the stadium and at the Meeting Points.
For the first time, volunteers will be involved in actions to raise awareness and clean up the stadium. ‘Torcida Joga Limpo!’ is an initiative that aims to generate a ‘zero rubbish’ movement at the end of matches. Each clean-up action will involve 25 to 30 volunteers, accompanied by a Liga Portugal Ambassador.
All the recyclable waste collected during the stadium clean-ups, once weighed, will be donated to One Piece After Another - a local civic movement committed to preserving beaches in the Marinha Grande and Leiria area, which regularly organises beach clean-ups with the aim of protecting marine ecosystems.
At this Eco-event, Valorlis is presenting a pilot project - a yellow ecopoint equipped with a waste reader - which will be installed in the Meeting Points areas. These ecopoints are able to calculate the materials deposited and reward the traders who recycle the most packaging waste.
The 2024-25 edition will also include Refood Leiria, as a partner of the Football Foundation - Liga Portugal, which will be responsible for collecting and redistributing surplus food to the families it supports and to local charities.
This Eco-event takes place within the scope of the cooperation protocol for Environmental Sustainability between EGF and the Football Foundation - Liga Portugal, which provides for the joint organisation and promotion of initiatives related to environmental sustainability in their respective areas of activity. So, once again, the conditions are in place for this Allianz CUP Final Four to be a great celebration for professional football and families, while fully respecting environmental commitments!
